One World One Beat at Waddow

As part of the One World One Beat festival over the weekend of 19-21 February, Waddow hosted 49 Brownies, Guides and their Leaders to a fun-filled weekend. The Waddow event linked with other One World One Beat events held around the UK to celebrate World Thinking Day.

The Friday evening was spent getting to know each other and preparing for the exciting weekend ahead. “I think the best thing this weekend was how easy Waddow made it to make friends.” Said Maddie, a Brownie with the 3rd Grappenhall Brownies.

The main event on Saturday began with an early start and then it was straight into the programme that included various dance, drama and music workshops, as well as the live link with the other regional events and ending with Thinking Day reflections.

Saturday evening offered a pick-and-mix session; DVD for those too exhausted from the day to dance and sing-a-long to the Karaoke, and for those who had slightly more energy, there were board games to play.

Sunday morning awoke to snow!! No excited cheers just ‘not again’!!
The grass sledge made an appearance but it failed and was replaced with a giant game of Twister for 30 people.
Judith Diggins from the 6th Colne Brownies said “I will always remember my small Brownies on the grass sledges.”

The afternoon was spent making crafts to remind the girls of their weekend at Waddow.

The closing ceremony reflected on friends around the world with a special time to renew the Promise.

The weekend proved to be tiring but fun. Sara Burns, Leader with the 11th Ramsbottom Brownies said “The Brownies were asleep by 10.30pm every night.”

“The One World One Beat event was great fun.” said Lizzie Titchard from the Coppull Senior Section.
