Competition time!
The winning designs of our two competitions were on show
at the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Hampton Court Palace
Flower Show!
As part of our Centenary Celebrations we teamed up with the RHS
to give our members a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Girls and
young women were challenged to create their own designs for
the Royal Hampton Court Palace Flower Show. The 30 winning
units brought their designs to life at the show, to be
viewed by 165,000 people.
Recycled Container Competition
Rainbows, Brownies and Guides entered Centenary-inspired
designs, planted in reclaimed or recycled containers, with some
very creative results! The 24 winning Recycled Containers exemplify
what our members love about being part of guiding – from
friendships, camping and cooking to being outdoors, including all
and of course, gardening! The containers made innovative (and
sometimes unexpected!) use of a range of vessels, plants and
props.
Visitors to the show voted for their favourite design and the
winners received prizes from the RHS.

Ultimate Adventure Balcony Competition
Sponsored by PKF
Guides and Senior Section members were invited to design
balconies on the theme of Girlguiding UK’s Centenary Ultimate
Adventures. The balconies were inspired by a wide range of
adventures - sailing around the British Isles, trekking to Mount
Everest base camp, supporting development projects around Africa
and much more. The balcony designs also demonstrated what members
love about Girlguiding UK and how they, and half a million others,
will be celebrating the guiding Centenary.
The balconies were judged by the RHS who awarded three Highly
Commended, two Commended and one Merit.
