Hints and tips
Before you start some Hits and Tips for your Photo Pin Board
images!
Try and capture photos which are to full of expression,
enthusiasm and members having fun.
Here’s some suggestions of how:
Get creative - take a range of shots both
landscape and portrait to capture the best image.
Be active - photographs look better when the
people in it are having fun and moving around.
It’s behind you… - A nice background can add
depth and interest but a bad one can detract from a great
picture!
Facing forwards? - The girl in the photo
doesn’t have to be facing the camera directly, if they are looking
down concentrating or laughing with a friend, then it could still
look nice as a facing camera shot.
Remember!
If you are taking your own
pictures make sure your camera is set to take pictures in the
highest resolution/quality that it can. Many cameras allow you to
adjust quality settings to fine, normal or low. Remember: the
better quality the image, the larger the file will be.
The requirement for photos submitted to The Centenary Pin
Board:
- Keep the shot of the head and shoulders only.
- The photos need to be of girls, taken by girls (members age 4 –
26).
- The member can be in or out of their guiding uniform.
- Keep the original file size to at least 1MB to ensure a high
enough quality image to be used.

Privacy
When uploading each photo you are asked to set the privacy
level, by selecting Private (only you see them). Please do this for
all photos of members of Girlguiding UK under 16. You will know
that you have completed this accurately as a red symbol appears
next to the photo.
Please note that when you post a private photo onto a group they
become visible on the group and to members of the public. The
photos then rely on the security of the group.
Photos which are not private will not be added to the group pool
as this contravenes Girlguiding UK’s rules for this site. We will
email you and ask you to change the setting or remove the photos
form Flickr.
Girlguiding UK leaders taking part in this project have a
responsibly for all the photos they upload on to the Flickr site to
ensure that:
- They have permission from parents/carers of members under 16 to
upload the photos to Flickr and that Girlguiding UK can use the
photos.
- The privacy settings are set so that photos of members of
Girlguiding UK, cannot be widely available to users of
Flickr.
Because we need leaders to verify that they have permission for
these photos we are unable to allow members under 18 to upload
photos to the group.
