PGL is proud to be the official sponsor of the residential Big
Brownie Takeover and an official partner of Girlguiding UK. For
over 50 years, PGL has been providing value-for-money residential
activity trips for young people and we are delighted to help
celebrate the 100th anniversary of guiding, by helping Brownies
take over PGL’s activity centres.
All the information about who can go, ratios, what is
provided (including merchandise) and necessary
forms are included in our updated FAQ sheet.
Please check this out before emailing your
query.
Each Unit Leader attending needs to complete an A/J form.
Details about these can be found on the FAQ sheet. A/Js are
sent to Venue Coordinators and they will send you their address
separately. Please do not send in A/J forms more than 2
months in advance.
Please note some venues have 2 events so when printing
an A/J form, do ensure you have the correct form.
Please do not use an A/A
form.
Could it be Magic?
That was the question we asked as the first
Adventure took place - Brownies Take Over PGL – at Boreatton
Park.
The resounding answer was yes and then some.
500 Brownies took over the venue in Shropshire for a whole weekend
of adventurous activities, fun, friendship and challenges, which
finished with a huge Centenary Brownie Relay.
The whole weekend was sprinkled with
magic such as the Brownie Back Packs each girl received
as she arrived, special baseball caps to show which team they would
be in, special songs created by the PGL groupies to encourage their
team and even a special verse to a well known Brownie
Song!
Saturday evening was alight with
magic thanks to a very special firework display where
there was even a symbol of a Brownie badge lit up by fireworks.
There was much enthusiasm on the Sunday as
team points were totalled and the race to the finale increased in
pace.
The winners were the Blue team, which included
Brownies from 8 different counties including Buckinghamshire,
Wirral, Cheshire Forest and Border, Greater Manchester West,
Meirionnydd, Nottinghamshire and Wiltshire North. Well done to the
team and to all the Brownies for taking part with such
enthusiasm!
So the answer was a resounding yes it
could be pure magic. It was a mountain-top moment for
the Brownies but also for many leaders, a number of whom had never
taken Brownies away and had no licence but left planning when
they could next get away and get their licence.
Alternatively, you could even Create Your
Own Takeover at one of our Training
and Activity Centres. Please note If you would like to
Create Your Own Takeover at a PGL
centre, you will require a residential licence.
The magic has continued as Brownies have taken over six further
venues and in some cases taking over twice. During April and
May, over 2000 Brownies from many parts of the UK have been
clambering, climbing and crawling their way through a magical
Adventure! The magic continues as preparations are under way
for the events yet to take place.
