Hundreds of Swansea girls celebrate with a splash as we launch our Centenary

Several hundred girls and women from West Glamorgan were among over half a million people to take part in the launch of Girlguiding UK’s centenary celebrations on Sunday 6 September.

Girls ranging from Rainbows as young as five, to Senior Section Guides in their twenties took part in a host of activities at The LC in Swansea including taking on the Centre’s wave machine and water slides in the pool, to other exciting activities like cheerleading and a climbing wall.

It was also a chance for adult members to join together and reflect on their memories of guiding in South West Wales.

One of the event organisers, Diane Holohan, said: “Our launch weekend really was a chance to show everyone just what opportunities are open to girls through guiding and how much they enjoy themselves. It’s a great place to make friends and to take part in hundreds of modern and relevant activities.”

The event was just one of hundreds taking place on the weekend of the 5th and 6th of September, right across the UK as Girlguiding UK launched a year long party of events intended to celebrate guiding’s unique girl-only space which began back in 1909.
