100 years on... look at us now!
Girlguiding UK launched the start of its
Centenary last September with a year of ground-breaking events and
projects.
With over half a million young members aged between five and 25 the
range of opportunities to enable all our members to have a
mountain-top moment is wide and varied.

So what events have taken place so far?
Rainbows Go Wild
Rainbows (aged 5-7) have been given the chance
to Go Wild at a zoo for the day or be
magical at a Princess Party. ICANDO held a Princess Party in early
November. 120 Rainbows enjoyed a memborable day out at one of
Girlguiding UK’s Training and Activity Centres.

Brownies (aged 7-10) took over PGL, 500

Shropshire for a whole weekend of adventurous activities. Other
Brownies have taken over Girlguiding UK activity centres and there
are still more adventures to come from Take
Over the Tracks to international opportunities.
Great Guide Get Away
Guides (aged 10-14) have travelled
internationally to many countries, and taken part in Great Guide
Get Aways held at Girlguiding UK’s Training and Activity Centers.

Senior Section Ultimate Adventures
Senior Section members (aged 14-25) have been
travelling far and wide to explore Costa
Rica, New York, Lapland and Europe amongst many other places.

Adventures that have already taken place. They’re also making
the most of the UK with mountain challenges, city breaks
and a Tall Ship voyage.
Our first Centenary project was Girlguiding
UK : Changing the World -community action for all our members
with 19 charity partners.
Throughout our Centenary year we will be
celebrating the impact guiding has had on girls’ and womens’ lives,
and society in general, by looking at our heritage and sharing
experiences from the last 100 years of guiding. Girls and young
women can celebrate 100 years of memories by gathering and sharing
guiding stories and add them to the Story
Bank.
World Thinking Day is one of the most
significant dates in our guiding calendar. The weekend of the 20
and 21 February saw thousands of members of Girlguiding UK
celebrated World Thinking day by attending a One World One Beat event. Read the reports from the many events from around
the UK.
