100 years on... look at us now!

From September 2009 Girlguiding UK will be celebrating its Centenary with a year of ground-breaking events and projects.
With over half a million young members aged between five and 25 the range of opportunities to enable all our members to have a mountain-top moment is wide and varied. Learn about the history of Girlguiding UK.

Rainbows Go Wild

Rainbows (aged 5-7) can Go Wild at a zoo or be at a magical
Princess Party.

Big Brownie Take Over

Brownies (aged 7-10) will be Taking Over PGL and Girlguiding UK activity centres as well Take Over the Tracks (railway adventures) and even international opportunities to visit Belgium and France.

Great Guide Get Away

Guides (aged 10-14) are travelling internationally including destinations such as Switzerland, Sweden and Mexico as well as having the biggest ever Guide Camp in the UK, trips to UK and international activity centres and unique sleepovers at Warwick Castle and Alton Towers.

Senior Section Ultimate Adventures

Senior Section members (aged 14-25) are travelling far and wide to explore Costa Rica, Botswana, Lapland and Europe amongst many other places. They’re also making the most of the UK with mountain challenges, city breaks, a Tall Ship voyage and much more.

Our first Centenary project was Girlguiding UK : Changing the World -community action for all our members with 19 charity partners.

There’s lots more to come too:

  • Photography Projects – a special competition and our Photo Pin Board.
  • Adventure 100 – an adventure for everyone with 100 Centenary challenges.
  • Fusion – the spectacular way to celebrate the Centenary with 30 000 members enjoying the best in performing arts in the ground of Harewood House
  • Heritage projects – interactive projects like Story Gathering to appreciate the impact we’ve had on girls’ and womens’ lives and on society in general.
  • One World One Beat – nine festivals across the UK to celebrate World Thinking Day with world performing arts.
  • Young Women’s World Forum - two young women aged 18-25 from each WAGGGS (World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts) Member Organization will be at our first ever Young Women’s World Forum representing their country and discussing the United Nations’ Millennium Development Goals.
